Workshop on Marine Waste and its Impacts on Coastal-Marine Ecosystems

The workshop was held with the scientific support of UNESCO Chair on Environmental Education on 5 December 2018, on the sidelines of the first International Exhibition on Waste Management, Recycling, and the Related Machinery and Equipment, held at Shahre-Aftab International Exhibition Center in Tehran. Advisor of the Marine Environment department presented the workshop. The aim of the workshop was to provide the participants with explanation on the following subjects:

• Advantages of oceans and seas and human behavior toward oceans and seas
• Definition of marine wastes and how they enter the sea
• The problem of marine waste in the world
• The status of waste management in the coastal areas of the northern and southern Iran in each city and village
• Programs implemented for waste management, especially marine and ship-generated wastes

Participants also discussed the future plans in areas, such as new technologies, rules and regulations, production, changes in habits and behavior.
