Workshop on the Regulations and Instructions of Medical Waste Management and Monitoring of the implementation of these regulations by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education

The workshop was held with the scientific support of UNESCO Chair on Environmental Education on 6 December 2018, on the sidelines of the first International Exhibition on Waste Management, Recycling, and the Related Machinery and Equipment, held at Shahre-Aftab International Exhibition Center in Tehran. The specialist of environmental health and hospital waste management monitoring instructed the workshop. The main subjects of the workshop are as follows:
- Harmful, toxic and pathogenic effects of hospital wastes on environment
- Management of hospital wastes (ordinary and hazardous) and the related national laws
- Rules and methods of executive management of medical wastes /the rules for assigning management of medical waste to natural and legal persons
- The classification of hazardous medical wastes and how they are collected
- The health and safety instructions
- Various stages of waste management, guidelines and selection instructions
- Guidelines for selecting non-hazardous non-incineration waste devices
- Guidelines for performance assessment and monitoring of biological, chemical and mechanical non-hazardous non-incineration devices
- Statement on the non-hazardousness of sharps and infectious wastes,
- WHO documentation on medical wastes
- Main reasons of using non-incineration methods in Iran
- The current process of hazardous medical waste management in Iran
- Monitoring of the medical waste management plan by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education
